WHY 1000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN?
Learning to read begins long before a child reaches kindergarten. Reading builds vocabulary and language skills, and helps equip children with the skills they need to be ready for primary education. Reading together is a great way to develop a love of reading, as well as spend quality time with your child.
IT CAN BE DONE!
Preschool children (0-5 years old) work on this challenge with family members, caregivers, teachers, and librarians. Read 3 books to your child each day; you will have read 1,095 books in one year. If you read one book a day, you can be done in less than 3 years.
HOW IT WORKS!
It's easy to get started! Come into the library and sign up. It takes less than 3 minutes. Get your first reading log and begin as soon as you are ready. Turn in your reading logs every 100 books and win prizes at key milestones: 100 Books, 250 Books, 500 Books, 750 Books and 1000 Books!
