Baker Act Youth Program

Program provides Baker Act services to children who are in acute psychiatric distress and have been determined to be a threat to themselves or others.

Program includes inpatient crisis stabilization, psychiatric treatment, medication stabilization, individual, group and family therapy, and discharge planning for follow-up care of clients who are assessed as requiring 24-hour care under the Baker Act until they are stabilized and can be treated in a less intensive setting.

The Blue Butterfly Family Grief Center

Program provides a peer grief support program for children ages 5-18 and their adult caregivers. Blue Butterfly groups are facilitated by mental health professionals and trained volunteers. The facilitators use evidence-based interventions that support children and families on their grief journey. Blue Butterfly services have no cost to patients and families in the community.

Services also include a one hour, 6-week school-based support group, evidence-based grief program for students K-12th grade.

Children’s Community Action Team (CAT)

Program provides youth substance abuse outpatient treatment services, intake assessment and evaluation, individualized treatment planning, psychosocial assessment, individual, family, group therapy, drug urine screening, case management, substance abuse and mental health screening, support groups, discharge planning, and referral and linkage to services for child and families within the community.

Provides substance abuse education, fundamentals of education, behavior modification principles and social skills education.

Children’s Counseling Services (Domestic Violence)

Program is designed to promote strength, safety and well-being for Manatee County children who have been affected by domestic violence, and to assist families with non-abusive methods of communication. Methods used include: individual and family counseling, parenting education, case management, advocacy, referrals, and staffing with a licensed clinical supervisor.

  • Victims of domestic violence, and their non-offending parents

Collaborative Action Therapy for Children’s Health/Wellbeing (CATCH)

Program provides language and speech screenings, evaluations, and therapy for children aged 30months through 5 years old. This program helps families with children that are identified with a speech or language disorder, who are unable to access other means of speech therapy and receive therapy through the program at their childcare center at no cost.

Services also include screenings on-site, in childcare centers or at family homes, otherwise they are screened at the Step Up Suncoast office.

  • Attend a licensed child care facility in Manatee County

Coordinated Approach to Child Health (CATCH)

Program provides child-based community health program that aims to create healthy habits and behavior change in children by teaching them to identify and choose healthy foods and to increase their moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) each day.

Services also include curriculum-specific training, technical assistance for classroom teachers and families. Practice-based coaching activities, coaching on curriculum fidelity, observation or assessment of classroom teachers and progress monitoring of children. Along with providing curriculum materials to participating early learning classrooms and families.

Sexual Assault Child Advocacy and Therapy for Children

Provides on-call crisis counseling, education and support to child victims of sexual assault. Through a 24-hour crisis call line, child victims have access to an advocate who arranges legal, medical, and behavioral health services throughout the recovery process.

Advocate accompanies the victim to law enforcement interviews including line-ups, photopack review sessions, and controlled phone calls; to court related interviews including prefiling interviews, depositions, hearings, and trials; and assists in filing compensation claims and information referrals.

Sexual Offense Abuse Reactive (SOAR)

Program provides individualized treatment from the most basic prevention skills for young children with sexual misconduct issues to the long term, intensive treatment of adolescent sexual abusers.

SOAR utilizes treatment modalities (cognitive behavior, empathy, and skill enhancement) and relapse prevention that are proven effective on a national level and adopted by the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers.
