Please find below tips and helpful information about the fares, fare policies and bus passes for riding public buses and trolleys in Manatee County.
As of November 1, 2022, Manatee County Area Transit is currently offering FREE FARES as part of an 18-month pilot program. The Board of County Commissioners voted on September 27, 2022 to move forward with a fare free pilot. MCAT’s fare free pilot program includes all MCAT fixed route services, Handy Bus service, the Longboat Key Shuttle, the Skyway ConneXion and the Port Manatee ConneXion Shuttle.
THESE FARE POLICIES WILL BE RE-EVALUATED IN EARLY 2024 TO DETERMINE IF FARE FREE SERVICE CAN CONTINUE.
**As of November 1, 2022, MCAT buses on Route 99 are charging regular SCAT FARES when those MCAT Route 99 buses are located within Sarasota County. Sarasota County Area Transit has not made a decision on whether to follow MCAT’s fare policy when the SCAT Route 99 buses are located within Manatee County. Passengers should be aware of these differences and can expect to require fare payment in Manatee County on SCAT buses until an agreement can be finalized between the two agencies.
